The “Blast the FAFSA” field trip was created through a partnership with the Coosa County Extension Office and the AL FAST Program for Seniors. The program was designed as an incentive for seniors to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications or FAFSA waiver forms for college.
The field trip took the seniors to the OMYA plant in Sylacauga. Seniors learned about the quarry, discussed job opportunities and toured the plant and quarry, but the highlight of the trip was watching a live blast. The attendees included Madison Jennings, Cornelius Braswell, Allana Sugg, Brooklyn Lee, Jordan Stansbury, Abigail Hyatt, Miracle Zeigler, Mariah Gilbert, Rebekah Burton, Kristopher Leonard, Briasia Tuck, Skylar Proctor, William Hickman, Kristasia Harkins, Tasaun Harrell, Markee Goff, Kali Snell, and Savannah Snell. Thank you to principal Lee for coordinating the trip and Coosa County Commissioner John Forbus for providing lunch for this event.
