Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Congratulations to all the girls who participated in the pageant Saturday. Coosa County has some beautiful girls of all ages. What a blessing for me to have my granddaughter Eden Nickolson crowned Miss Centroid her senior year. She is not only smart, but beautiful.
Tomorrow night, April 6, the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have Bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come out and support our fire department and enjoy fellowship with others in the community. They have concessions available for purchase, as well.
The Rockford tax office located at the Rockford Methodist Church is no longer taking new returns. Their last day is this Wednesday, April 10, from 9 to 2 for picking up returns only. The Alex City location is still making appointments but for extensions only.
The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning this Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. We will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13. We will meet on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. I encourage everyone to come out and support the history of our county. More to come next week.
I hope everyone had a great Easter. The sunrise service at Providence Baptist was well attended. The sunrise coming over the hill behind the three crosses was beautiful.
The Ward Easter Egg hunt was huge this year with more than 900 eggs hidden and participants from 6 months old and up. So amazing to see how the family grows each year. Seems we had more littles this year than in the past.
I encountered someone this week that passes out little cards that are called “thoughtfuls.” There are different series, but he was passing out the “believe” series. Mine read, “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there… Theodore Roosevelt.” It fit perfectly with my thoughts that day.
So, with that thought, my scripture is Joshua 1:9, which reads, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
What a wonderful verse that confirms that we should be confident and believe in ourselves because God is always with us. Whether it be life challenges or tough decisions, He’s there for us. But also, He’s there in times of joy and happiness.
God promised to be with us through all circumstances. We have to do our part. We have to believe in ourselves, that He gives us strength and ability. Often we miss blessings because we don’t trust God enough to step out on our faith. We don’t believe in ourselves enough to take that first step. We seem to be afraid of the “what-ifs.” First, we pray about our actions asking God for guidance, then we commit to them.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
