Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Next Saturday, April 6, the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have Bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come out and support our fire department and enjoy fellowship with others in the community. They have concessions available for purchase, as well.
Tax season is almost over, so if you haven’t already done your taxes, you can still get them done locally at the Rockford Methodist Church on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The last day to drop off your information is April 3. April 10 will be for picking up completed returns only.
Last Sunday was Palm Sunday, marking the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. He was greeted by crowds waving palm branches which they laid out on his path. In less than a week, Jesus went from being cheered to being jeered.
Today is Good Friday, which commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. The term “good” as used here is an Old English expression that means “holy.” But it’s also good in that we celebrate His resurrection on Easter Sunday. He had to die first in order to be resurrected. It is also traditionally a day that many people plant gardens. According to folklore, plants grow better and bear more fruit when planted on this day.
Next Sunday is Easter! It and Christmas are the biggest Christian holidays. While Christmas and many other holidays have fixed dates, Easter changes from year to year.
The Council of Nicaea decreed in 325 that Easter should be the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. Therefore, Easter can fall on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25.
Providence Baptist Church will have sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. at the cemetery on the hill. This will be followed by refreshments in the fellowship hall. Then, regular Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend, and if you don’t have a church, we would love to have you at Providence.
This week since it’s Easter time, my scripture is John 3:16-17, which reads, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
These verses are a powerful message to the world. God loves us so much that He gave His only Son so people could have eternal life. Jesus came to save people, not to punish or pass sentence on people. John 3:16 is probably the most well-known and memorized verse in the Bible. That verse alone can lead us to know Jesus as our Savior.
Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to save us from our sins. It promises us that we are loved by God and can spend an eternity in His presence. But, we have to make that commitment, give our lives to Jesus and believe in Him as our Savior.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
