Give me Liberty
Rodger Williamson
Thanks to BOTH the Democrats AND the Republicans in Congress, and then with the signature of President Joe Biden, “We the People” were just saddled with an additional $1.2 trillion in debt as a “mini”-spending bill to keep our federal government operating. This caused me to coin a new word-fusion for when the debt has become detestable, “debtestable.”
Our national debt is now at $34.6 trillion as I write this, with the number climbing so fast that it will be out of date well before this piece goes to press. The debt per taxpayer is now $266,950, which is a significant jump from the last time I quoted the debt per taxpayer as approaching $250,000. Yep, that is correct, your share of what Uncle Sam expects you to pay is now well over a quarter-million dollars!
To give you an idea of how much our national debt has climbed, back in 1980, the federal debt to GDP ratio was 34.54%. Today, even though the GDP has grown exponentially, the federal debt to GDP ratio is 123.7%. … that is a 358.2% increase in debt to GP spending.
There is a direct correlation between congressional spending and the inflation that we all are suffering. The more Congress spends, the more money is printed and dumped into the economy. When more money is dumped into the economy, it devalues the dollars already there. Prices on goods rise not because they are worth more, but because the dollar is worth less, thus requiring more dollars to purchase items.
According to the writings of our founding fathers, our federal government was intended to be defined, and limited, to just the enumerated powers that are delineated within our Constitution. What we have today is a monstrosity that is operating well beyond the authority granted by our Constitution.
I don’t know about you, but these numbers are completely unacceptable to me. As a historian, I immediately recall that about 250 years ago a group of incensed Americans dumped an entire cargo of tea into Boston Harbor in protest of a tax that was only 3 cents per pound of tea.
So where are my Patriots? Where are the modern Sons of Liberty? What will it take for “We the People” to say “enough!”?
While I would prefer our members of Congress to come to their senses and return to limited spending, I doubt that is going to happen without a radical reaction by the public.
I was once a soldier. I swore my oath to our Constitution to protect and defend it against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. At this time, the enemies of our Constitution are our own Congress and our president.
As a soldier, I was trained to fight. I ask, when will I hear a call for volunteers to go dump the cargo out of a ship, or to report with arms to the town green, or for “We the People” to seize and return our federal government back to the confines of our Constitution, but I wait, because I just do not see hardly anyone today who is even cognizant of how badly they are getting screwed, let alone willing to risk life, limb, or fortune to take action and actually do something.
Please contact your representatives in Congress, and let them know that you are fed up and want them to reign in their spending. In an ideal world, this idea would go viral across all fifty states, and all of Congress would get the message loud and clear. … For if it doesn’t, our nation is doomed.
