Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
The primary election is over with our county having a Republican run-off for the circuit clerk. There were no state or Democratic run-offs. The run-off election will be on April 16. If you voted Republican or didn’t vote at all last week, you can vote in the run-off.
This next week is Spring Break for Coosa County schools! Hope everyone has a great week! Some systems have been out this past week and some the week after ours.
Years ago Spring Break was the same for all Alabama school systems. It was called AEA Week because teachers had state conferences during this week and usually the third week of March.
At the Richville Neighborhood Watch meeting this past week it was decided to not use the monthly collections to buy supplies for the Crafters until May. Then, possibly beginning the crafting in July. It was also discussed about making baked goods to sell at the Boston Butt pickup days. Don’t forget the next Richville Fire Department Bingo is on April 6 at 6:30 p.m.
If you haven’t already done your taxes, you can still get them done locally at the Rockford Methodist Church on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. While walk-ins are welcome, you can call 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Be sure you tell them it’s for the Rockford location.
Easter is March 31 this year. Many people start getting their gardens ready to plant about this time of year. As I drive around the area, I see many gardens getting their first plowing. However, it can still frost and be cold in the mornings.
I hope everyone is adjusting to the time change. It’s great in the afternoon to have that extra hour, but rough in the morning when my body says it’s not time to get up yet. It usually takes me a couple of weeks before I get all adjusted.
This week as I thought about how we need to be persistent in our actions toward others, Romans 5:3-5 came to mind. It reads, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
We have to put forth an effort to achieve anything and keep doing it! Even when the going gets tough. Trusting God through everything we encounter to bring us through it. Oftentimes as Christians we see people of the world have success after success while we struggle.
Think of a baby learning to walk; they don’t give up the first time they sit down, but continue trying. That’s what these verses teach us, to not give up with the first problem we have and say, “Oh me!” But those stumbling blocks make us stronger day by day. So, hang in there!
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
