Dear Editor,
Education Choice. Alabama House Bill 129 passed the state’s lower legislative body last month and now awaits Senate action. The CHOOSE Act will provide parents with more educational choices for their own children.
This legislation would provide parents with a tax credit of up to $7,000 per year in an Education Savings Account for each school-age child for qualified expenses, including private tutors. This would restore parents as the decision makers in providing the most suitable education for their own children – in public school, private school, or even homeschool.
While some may be rightfully suspicious of government strings with such funding, HB129 restricts the Alabama Department of Revenue to only administrative necessities to implement the legislation. In short, HB129 provides more options for parents and legally preempts any potential government intrusions in parental choices in education.
Let Alabama State Sen. Clyde Chambliss know Coosa County supports parental choice in education, the CHOOSE Act.
Sincerely,
Charles A. Orr
