A Coosa County man was arrested last month on drug-related charges following a visit to the probation office.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on February 9 probation officer Burnham called Investigator Travis Ward and requested assistance for searching a vehicle at the probation office.
In conducting that search, Ward found a pill bottle containing a large crystal-like substance and a leafy green substance, which were determined to be crystal methamphetamine and marijuana, respectively. The search also resulted in finding a clear glass pipe used for smoking.
That same day 52-year-old Loy Alpheus Windham of Coosa County, near the Verbena area, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His total bond was set at $10,000, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
