Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
We had a slow First Saturday, and it wasn’t the weather because it was great, a bit chilly in the morning but sunny and warm all afternoon. I hope next month everyone is well and able to come out and support our volunteer fire department, with breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and the rummage sale.
At the homestead already starting some spring cleaning. With all the rain we got last Sunday the yard looks a mess, so I was out cleaning up and moving stuff to prepare for some grass seeding and a location for a carport awning a friend of my husband’s has given us if we go take it down. I am excited to have a place to park under soon in both the rain and the summer sun. Yes, working outside is a nice break from all the work we have been doing on the inside.
Have you considered getting a veggie “subscription” from Coosa Fancy Organic Farm on Highway 14? They have CSAs available of 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring Session: March 23 – May 25 and Summer Session: June 15 – August 17. You can also purchase their spring and summer CSA together for 15% off! (That’s three FREE weeks!)
The CSA system offers customers the opportunity to support their local farms and producers via an initial buy-in price, which is then returned through weekly shares of fresh produce. This helps the farm by providing the initial capital needed for operation costs. Call 205-552-4592 or sign up on their website at https://coosa-fancy.com/shop.
Friday, February 9, is Open Mic Night at Coosa Live (formerly known as Equality Performing Arts Center) which is tonight. Come enjoy an evening out enjoying live music. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Thursday, February 22, is the next Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please plan on attending an informative and enjoyable social event. You can bring a dish to pass if you like, but not necessary, as there is a community potluck because sharing food always goes well with gatherings.
Saturday, February 24, at 4 p.m. is Bingo at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Hall on Highway 9. This is a fund-raising event to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. Games are $1 a card, lots of fun, with concession sales, and all proceeds support the EVFD. Come join the fun.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
