Special to the News
On December 14, 2023, Tony House of Stewartville was honored in a special ceremony to commemorate 50 years of continuous membership in the Masonic Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.
Zachary Holmes, grand secretary and executive director of the Grand Lodge of Alabama, presided over the evening’s ceremony at Weogufka Masonic Lodge #378.
Local and visiting Masonic members, as well as invited guests, gathered to celebrate the golden anniversary and witness the presentation of a commemorative pin and certificate. Attendees were invited to share congratulatory remarks and fond memories.
House said that he was inspired and encouraged as a young man to join the fraternity by his father, J.A. “Smoky” House, who was also a Mason.
He noted, “It was special to have my daddy with me when I was going in.”
House was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on November 1, 1973; passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft on November 19, 1973; and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on December 10, 1973. During his tenure, House served as secretary in the Weogufka Lodge for five years.
