Equality & NIxburg News

Not much but so much is happening it seems to me. Ever have weeks like that? I am busy, but I don’t seem to accomplish what I feel needs to be accomplished.
My husband has been around the house getting things accomplished. I have been struggling with a neighbor’s dog getting in our yard; another bird is missing, a young turkey hen which are hard to come by. The dog was caught on camera digging up our pet cemetery. I have repaired the fence, added barbed wire, moved the game cameras, and am about to add a layer of electric fencing to protect my livestock since the new campground at the neighbor’s house residents don’t confine their dog.
I know many say just shoot the dog, but I must be there to do that, and with my job and the store it makes being there 24/7 a bit challenging. I also don’t want to involve the sheriff; they have enough on their hands fighting all the crime in the county.
Almost springtime and time to think garden veggies. Coosa Fancy Organic Farm on Highway 14 has a CSA of 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring Session: March 23 through May 25 and Summer Session: June 15 through August 17. You can also purchase their spring and summer CSA together for 15% off! (That’s three FREE weeks!)
CSA system offers customers the opportunity to support their local farms and producers via an initial buy-in price, which is then returned through weekly shares of fresh produce. This helps the farm by providing the initial capital needed for operation costs. Call 205-552-4592 or sign up on their website at https://coosa-fancy.com/shop.
It is First Saturday time! Woot woot! Saturday, February 3, is Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s monthly fundraising event, and they sure could use more baked goods donated for the bake sale, as well as your slightly used items for their rummage sale.
Come join the breakfast for a donation at 8 a.m. and lunch starting at 11 a.m. Bake Sale and Rummage Sale both run the entirety of the day or until items are sold out. Come support our wonderful volunteer fire department.
No event at Coosa Live (formerly known as Equality Performing Arts Center) this Friday as it is date night for my husband and me. The next Coosa Live event will be Open Mic Night Friday, February 9. Hope to see you then.
Thursday, February 22, is the next Equality Neighborhood Watch Meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please plan on attending an informative and enjoyable social event.
Saturday, February 24, at 4 p.m. is Bingo at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Hall on Highway 9. This is a fund-raising event to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. It is $1 a card, lots of fun, with concession sales. All proceeds support the EVFD, so come join the fun.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
