The Richville Volunteer Fire Department had its first Bingo of the year this past Saturday. Attendance was off, but a great time was had by those that attended. The next Bingo will be February 24, so put it on your calendar now.
They, as well as all the other volunteer fire departments, do a great job with limited resources and manpower. We need to support all our neighborhood volunteer departments. I am thankful we now have at least one countywide ambulance on call 24/7. This doesn’t take away from any of the volunteer fire departments, but assists them in providing a much-needed service.
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on January 28 at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center located on Alabama Highway 22 East next to the Rockford Event Center. Waiting for confirmation of a guest speaker for the program. Hopefully, next week I will have more details.
We have several projects that need doing, so we need assistance. Many of our current members are either elderly or live out of the county. We are a countywide based organization. If you have an interest in Coosa County history and are not a member, we welcome you. Dues are $15 per year per household.
So, mark your calendars for Sunday, January 28, and see what we do. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but we welcome you to join. This will be a great opportunity to see the new senior center if you haven’t already. Members provide refreshments.
Just a reminder that beginning on Wednesday, February 7, Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama will once again be providing tax preparation in Rockford at the Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. This is a free service to taxpayers over the age of 60 with any income amount. Also, taxpayers 59 and under with an income of $62,00 are served, also. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will have priority. Call 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Be sure you tell them it’s for the Rockford location.
This week the Bible verse I want to share is Galatians 6:7, which reads, “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow.”
This verse is often referred to as “karma” or what goes around comes around. Karma is defined as destiny or fate, following as effect from cause. It reminds us that our actions have consequences, and our choices determine the outcome. You can’t sow or plant corn and have squash come up.
If we only think or seek self-serving desires, then that’s all we’ll receive because the flesh can only produce corruption. Without God, our lives can only be self-serving; we live in an “I” world. With God that all changes.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
