Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
You ever get news that, although you knew it was a possibility, when received just hit you like a hurricane? That happened with my parents’ deaths. While battling terminal illness, the news that they passed sent me into an emotional tailspin.
Well last week I got the news that the contract I work on is ending, and the company did not get the award for the following contract, so my employment future is very uncertain right now.
I knew this could happen. I knew to be prepared; however, the news that it has happened still has me in an emotional state looking at all the possibilities. If I can’t find a new remote job, I will have to take a job out of the area. This means either relocating or doing very long commutes. Both of which ultimately mean I can’t run Jenny’s General or Rodger’s Shrubbery.
And even if I do find a remote position and can still work from home, I have come to realize I can’t do it all, and Jenny’s deserves and requires my full-time attention to be successful because right now I support the store far more than the store can support itself. So, need to look at options, perhaps even just leasing out the property. Two months to figure things out – we will see what the ultimate outcome will be, but things must change.
Equality Methodist Church is having a Christmas Party on December 17 at 5 p.m. There will be singing of songs and finger foods. Food drop at Equality Methodist Church is December 18.
The Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, December 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Community Lodge on Highway 9. Please come join us for information, potluck and community fellowship.
Equality Methodist Church is also having a Christmas get together to put together Christmas baskets for the community and a short Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.; everyone is invited to all their activities.
Tonight, Friday, December 8, is Open Mic Night. Come enjoy an evening out enjoying a night of fun entertainment or share your own talents. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
