A young man from the Birmingham area was arrested last Wednesday on a charge relating to child custody.
On November 13, the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a call in the Kellyton area on information of a runaway juvenile. Law enforcement officers met with the juvenile’s mother, and the family had determined that the juvenile was possibly with a man named Dennis Mason.
During the investigation deputies pinged phones for locations. After receiving the last ping, deputies went to Gadsden, but while en route they received a call that the juvenile was back home.
Further investigation determined that the juvenile had gotten into a vehicle with two individuals. Warrants were signed on 18-year-old Dennis Lee Mason of Birmingham, and he was arrested on November 22.
Mason was charged with interference with child custody. His bond was set at $10,000, and he was released on bond Monday, November 27, to await trial.
The second suspect was identified, and warrants have also been obtained for that second individual.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
