The drivers education program recently received an updated car to ensure the safety of the students as they are learning to drive. The benefits of a drivers education program may seem obvious since teen drivers are the highest risk group for accidents, and knowledgeable drivers keep us all safe, but a drivers education program goes beyond teaching students to drive; they learn the rules of the road, basic mechanical information, the risks of distracted driving, awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving, an awareness of the responsibility a driver has for their passengers, as well as confidence in knowing how to react when faced with a challenging driving situation. Insurance companies recognize the benefit of drivers education programs, as well, because students who present their Drivers Education Certificate to their insurance company receive lower insurance rates – something their parents also appreciate since insurance premiums for teens can be quite expensive. Thank you to Central’s drivers education instructor Chris Elliott who works hard to engage students in lessons that make them smarter, more confident and safer drivers.
