The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
Every where I go this week I see people out burning leaves. I know, it’s late fall, and that is what you do, but I have two words to say about that: BURN BAN.
The burning ban was put into effect for public safety. The elevated risk for wildfires affects more than just “the woods.” Maybe the ban will be eased after some rain by the time you read this. In the meantime, learn to compost those leaves.
Rumor has it that it was leaf burning that caused all of the excitement in Rockford last week. Rumor also has it that it was a space heater (another cold weather issue you humans have). But thank you, thank you to the fire departments that responded.
Controlling that house fire so it didn’t spread to so many buildings close by, and the gas station NEXT DOOR, was quite an achievement. But the community response can’t stop with the smoke.
Century-old houses are not insurable. So we have a disabled citizen who lost everything he had. Do something for him. Donate some money, clothes, food, time cleaning up…. I hope someone can organize the huge effort he needs.
And we have a black hole on Main Street. You know I will be interested to see what happens next with that. Think I can keep my beak shut?
Remember, I am your eye in the sky.
Love,
Buzzy
