Union Square News
Ruby Johnson

My granddaughter Amirah, left, with her sister, Deja. Amirah will be turning 18 years old tomorrow, November 11, and this is her favorite photo of all time, taken 13 years ago. Happy birthday, Amirah!
Union Square honors and thanks all of you veterans for serving our country and this land of God. We appreciate you to the highest.
I am not aware of all of Union Square’s veterans. However, here are some names that I do know, and I am grateful and love all of you: Mrs. Robin Schmidt, Mrs. Ran Wilson, Thomas Taylor, Terry Wilson, Butch Hardman, and Bill Hough; and cannot forget the deceased ones, Detective David Windsor, Jimmy Ray McKinney and Jerry McKinney.
Union Square’s Neighborhood Watch meeting went well Monday night. Always happy to have our candidates, Jamey Johnson and Ramona Cina, as well as her faithful husband, Dan Cina. We also had two special young guests, Ian and Lily Howell. They graced our meeting very well.
Lily won the door prize, pulled by brother, Ian. However, she returned it back to us for someone else to have it. Isn’t that sweet and kind of her? (She is 11 years old.) There were two gifts donated by County Commissioner Brandon Davis, one for a female and one for a male.
Ian pulled again and drew Dan’s name, and he also returned his for another person because he felt he did not deserve it since he was a guest and our candidate Ramona’s husband; now I said that (smile); he did not! Anyhow, he was kind enough to share it. There was a sweet spirit in the place.
Sheriff Howell gave his report with great information and offered needed help for anyone who needs it. We appreciate the work he does for Coosa County, and we say, “Thank you, Sheriff Howell.”
We appreciate our president, Johnny Schmidt. He is doing a wonderful job, almost as well as his daddy-in-law, Kenny Shaw, did. You are great, Johnny! We thank you, too, Vice President Sherry Shaw, and all of he officials: Robin, Susan, Janice, and our District 3 Commissioner Brandon Davis. He helps wherever he can – present or not present, he is available to serve.
Let’s keep our treasurer, Susan Rogers, in prayer, and please let’s pray for Pat Windsor’s grandson Corey Windsor, as well as for everyone who is under the weather and under the knife.
Happy birthday to my precious granddaughter Amirah Johnson, my friend Frankie Cousin, Chris Rogers, and to all November babies.

What about those Central Coosa Cougars? The football team snagged its best record in seven seasons, winning against Autaugaville 58-34. Win or lose, Coach Shundell Russaw always speaks positively, and I love that. That’s what wins the game. We cannot win them all, but we can learn from it all. That’s the way to go out. Way to go, Central Coosa Cougars!
