A group of students from the Coosa County Science and Technology Center attended the Manufacturing Chew and Chat to Trenholm State Community College, Pearson Campus, and Montgomery Regional Workforce Training Center (MRWTC), which is part of the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT).
At Trenholm, students briefly toured the campus with a focus on the manufacturing programs offered at Trenholm. Students got an introduction to the welding, machine shop and automotive programs offered at Trenholm State.
In addition, students had the opportunity to listen to business representatives of the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program. The Alabama FAME website states the following, “The AL FAME program partners students with industry while they take classes at select community colleges. The goal is for students to gain valuable employment experience with manufacturing leaders while also completing their associate degree.” Many of our students were interested in learning more about FAME opportunities, so Ms. Garrett plans to coordinate that in the near future.
At MRWTC students also toured their facilities and received an overview of the programs they offer. Students were excited to hear that individuals are able to attend an AIDT training facility and complete the training programs they offer free of charge. This is a game changer for several of our students since postsecondary educational funding can oftentimes be a struggle.
At the end of the day, Ms Garrett said, “I had several students thank me for taking them on the trip; that they learned a lot. That’s what makes all the hard work worth it!”
Thank you to Coosa County Schools Career Coach Keslie Garrett for coordinating these awesome opportunities for our students to be exposed to the different options available for their postsecondary continuing education.
