Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Two months left in 2023! So, let’s make the most of what’s left. With Halloween earlier this week, the holiday season has started.
Christmas has now taken over November, leaving Thanksgiving out in the cold it seems. So, I encourage everyone to not forget Thanksgiving this year, but allow time to celebrate the fall and the blessings that we have.
It’s that time of year to “Fall Back” with time! So don’t forget to turn your clock back one hour Saturday night before you go to bed if you don’t have one that does it automatically. Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 5.
While Daylight Saving Time in the United States was first implemented in 1918 during World War I to conserve energy, most of us did not start observing it until President Lyndon Johnson signed the Uniform Time Act into law in 1966. There was a change in 2007 to the start and end dates to make it longer. There has been much debate in the last few years about permanently adopting either Standard Time or Daylight Saving Time. As of now, there is no consensus or new movement, so we will continue to “Fall Back” and “Spring Forward” into 2024.
From all the posts on Facebook, it looks like Sardis Baptist had a great Fall Festival with good attendance and fun for all. Providence Baptist had a great turnout for church and our fellowship meal, also.
The Coosa County Historical Society, beginning November 9 and continuing every second Thursday of the month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will be cleaning the old jail, as well as cleaning and redoing the exhibits. Members are encouraged to participate, when possible, as well as anyone interested in becoming a member.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch met this week. See an update in next week’s column as this column was turned in before their meeting. Don’t forget the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have Bingo on Saturday, November 18, at 6:30 p.m. Make plans to attend!
Starting this week for the month of November, my Bible verses will be about thanksgiving or being thankful. Colossians 3:15 reads, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
“Be thankful” is a command for us to become thankful or grateful. We should acknowledge and praise God for the blessings that He gives us. But we should also be appreciative of what others do for us, from the little things to the big. Saying thank you seems to be a passing art. It doesn’t cost us anything, and it makes the receiver feel good. But most important it is a duty to thank God because of all the benefits we have in life because of His goodness.
I’m sure many of you have heard, “And….what do you say?” So, I encourage you to say thank you when someone does something for you, even if it’s just holding or opening a door.
Continue to pray for Israel and all those affected by this conflict. Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
