Union Square News

Pastor Chris Hill of Rockford Church of God enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration with his church family and a special delicious cake.
Union Square’s Neighborhood Watch meeting is Monday. November 6.
I had such a wonderful visit with two Union Square sisters, Patsy and Lena Johnston. What a great blessing! My spirit was so uplifted in many ways. Lena’s daughter and son-in-law are a blessing to Union Square, and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for everything you have done!
J.D. Thompson High School Alumni Association hosted a wonderful Fall Festival for senior citizens last Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. However, it lasted longer because it was that good, and no one cared about the time. Games were played, health and wellness sessions were done, and there was good food and great fellowship. I saw friends I had not seen in a while. It was a great joy to see Mrs. Hilda Tuck and Lady Lillian Leonard. They are a blessing to me.
The month of October is over, but not the memories of sweet loved ones whose birthdays are in October: My dear true friend Bernice Hoyett-Wood; my chosen precious mom, whose sweet voice I miss hearing when I call to say happy birthday on October 23, Mother Pauline Norris-Thomas; a friend, Veola Parker; and last but not least, the greatest pastor of all time, Pastor Michael White, who started me on my way to know who God really is and to be filled with the Holy Ghost.
As I write this column on the last day of October, it brings tears to my eyes. I lost my mother, Beatrice Johnson, on this day years ago. “If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on us to never stop loving them. People die, but real love is forever!”
Since Pastor Hill’s birthday was a few days before Halloween, the church family decided to surprise him on Sunday after worship service with a trick-or-treat birthday celebration. However, he got both!
I believe the trick was better than the treat because he got a head and mouth full of tricks. He had to wear two birthday hats and got a mouthful of his treat (cake) smacked into his face, a payback from 12-year-old Bryson, who Pastor Hill smacked the day before at Bryson’s birthday party. They both share the same birthdays.
After all the treat was very special, with all sorts of good food and drinks and a delicious chocolate spooky cake, one of the best birthday cakes I have eaten. Birthday and wedding cakes are not always the best. I am glad I got some before Bryson wasted some on the smack. If I had known it was that good before the smack, I would’ve bought bought one for him to smack with. It was a great celebration and lots of fun. Everyone was acting like it was their birthday.
Happy birthday to Joetta Maxwell, Pastor Terry Hicks, Sylvia Anderson, Mrs. Dorothy Kelley, and to all November babies.
Prayer list: Elaine Parker, Charlie Ann Parker, Minister Roland Hazel, Carrie Tuck, Pastor Wilbert Johnson, Joyce Taylor, and Sherry Hazel.
