October 13 and 16
BridgeWays of Coosa County is hosting Schools Out Day Camp! Kids in PK4 through fifth grades will enjoy a broad range of enriching experiences in a safe and nurturing environment. Schools Out Day Camp will be held on the following days during the 2023-2024 school year: October 13 and 16, November 10, November 20-22, and December 20-22. Cost is $20 per day, per child. There is a 20% discount for multiple children, as well as scholarship funds available. Day Camp is held at the BridgeWays Program Center, located in Rockford. Drop-off as early as 7:30 a.m., with pickup as late as 5:30 p.m. If there is enough need, we will extend drop-off and pick-up by 30 minutes. Calling all cooks – amateur or pro! Show off your best mac and cheese at Cooking on the Coosa MacDown on October 14 at Merchant’s Alley, Wetumpka. Amateurs and pros will compete separately for first and second place prizes, while attendees can vote for the “Fan Favorite.” Join us for culinary greatness and cheesy excellence! The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, October 16, at 10 a.m. at the district office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.
October 19
Save the date: 2023 Coosa County Forestry Planning Committee’s Landowner Tour will be held Thursday, October 19, with registration beginning at 8:30 and the tour being from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Landowner Tour will be at the property of Pierre and Lacy LeBeau, located at 8297 Coosa County Road 55, Weogufka, 35183. Topics will include hog trapping and potential cost share opportunities, Safe Harbor Program – threatened and endangered species, managing field borders – turkey nesting and fawning cover, and maintaining historical sites to include historical cemetery information. October 20-28
Get those creative juices flowing and plan to enter the second anniversary Scarecrow Celebration at the Weogufka Center! Construct your scarecrow and be ready to display your masterpiece on October 20-26. Winners will be announced at Old Farm Day on October 28 and posted on the Weogufka Center Facebook page after the announcement. First place $150, second place $75, third place $50. Judging will be done on Friday, October 27, so make sure you have your scarecrow displayed at the Weogufka Center campus by that day. First come, first serve on any outside location at the center. Each scarecrow will be assigned a number during judging.
October 20-21
The Coosa County Long Term Recovery Committee is hosting a volunteer workday for tornado survivors October 20-21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for any group or individual that would like to volunteer to help survivors. Any survivors from the January 12 tornado that need volunteer work are asked to contact the Coosa County Long Term Recovery Committee by September 10 to get on the list for assistance by emailing Coosaltr@gmail.com. Additionally, if survivors are contacted by an individual or agency regarding unmet needs, they can call the Coosa County Probate Office at 256-377-4919 to ask if that person or agency can be trusted. The Probate Office has the names and numbers of the representatives that may contact survivors.
October 22
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, October 22, at 2 p.m. at the Edgewood Plantation, 14946 Alabama Hwy. 22, Rockford. Come see the beautiful restoration done by owner, Debra Lamberth. Refreshments furnished by members. All are welcome!
October 26
The J.D. Thompson High School Alumni Association will host a fall festival for senior citizens on Thursday, October 26, from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. This fun festival will take place at the J.D. Thompson white elementary alumni building, located at 1854 County Road 93, in the Cottage Grove community. Activities for all age groups, and a snack will be served. Dominos, bingo, checkers, musical chairs, and more. The event will also include a health and wellness session, music and time to fellowship with others. Dress comfortably. No charge to attend, but a $5 donation will be appreciated.
October 27
BridgeWays of Coosa County is hosting Kids Night Out! This is a 3-and-a-half hour event where kids in PK4 through fifth grades enjoy dinner, play games, participate in activities, and socialize with their BridgeWays friends. Kids Night Out will be held on the following Fridays: October 27 – Halloween Party (costumes encouraged, but not required) and December 15 – Christmas Caroling. Cost is $12 per child, including dinner and all activities. Drop-off is between 5:30-6 p.m., and pick-up between 8:30-9 p.m. at our Rockford Program Center, 9922 U.S. Highway 231. October 28
Farm Day will be held at the Weogufka Center on Saturday, October 28, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. $5 per vehicle. Sausage biscuits and coffee will be sold beginning at 7 a.m. Come on out and join in the fun with vendors, music, antique cars, pony and wagon rides, food, fried apple pies, activities in the “Learn About the Farm Children’s Center,” cake auction, and more! Event will be held rain or shine! To reserve a vendor spot or camp site please call Melvin Palmer at 256-249-8885. The antique/classic car and truck show will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Marble City Cruisers of Sylacauga.
Weekly
The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The historic Old Rock Jail in Rockford will be open every Sunday afternoon beginning May 7 and going through October 29.
Monthly
The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month. The West Coosa Senior Center will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the senior center, located in the old Stewartville school, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151. Plates will be available for $6 each with choices of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead to 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations are appreciated!

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.
Quarterly
The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
