Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Things are slow as we head into fall. Not much seems to be happening in the Equality and Nixburg communities.
There was a big auction down in the Nixburg area on Highway 9, and the usual Equality Volunteer Fire Department crew were there manning concessions raising needed funds for our fire department. This made downtown very slow.
Rodger’s Shrubbery is having an end-of-season sale. There are plenty of mums and fall garden veggies because of the large minimum buy required by the grower, so come get a great deal on the leftover plants. So if you want a mum that is just starting to blossom or plant some fall cabbage or kale now is the time to buy and get a great deal.
Jenny’s General has their sign on the building, and it looks good. Dave Russell of Russel Endeavors helped get it up over the porch roof and installed on the building. It has attracted more foot traffic; unfortunately sales are still very low. But this is Equality, so really doesn’t surprise anyone.
Bethesda Baptist Church invites you to Homecoming 2023 this Sunday, October 15, with musical guests “Spoken For.” Service is at 10:30 a.m. with lunch following the service. Everyone is welcome.
The Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is October 26, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Come join the community meeting, hear what is happening in our community and enjoy the potluck and fellowship.
Equality Performing Arts Center (EPAC) has Open Mic Night tonight, the second Friday, October 13. Come enjoy the house band or come share your own talents with us.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
