Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I just returned from attending my grandson’s graduation from Air Force Basic Military Training in San Antonio and came to some realizations.
I can’t do it all, not without a good support system. I can’t leave and travel without having someone caring for the farm, which is not just feeding, but also maintaining infrastructure like fences and barns when there is a failure or damage. I can’t leave to travel without someone caring for the business, meeting and greeting customers, making sales, setting up stock, dusting shelves, cleaning floors, troubleshooting issues and problems, and finding solutions to resolve them.
Basically, if I want to travel, I have to give up the life I chose here in Equality, and today I am wondering why I even chose to live in Equality in the first place. It has cost me so much. I invested everything I have, time, money, sweat, blood, tears, hopes, and dreams in the store, the farmhouse, the property, in building a good life here, and so far have gotten nothing but heartache and frustration in return.
I had a good life before I came here, and right now, I really want to return to that good life and knock the dust off my feet as I walk away from this town forever, never looking back.
If you are a member of the community and you read this column, please don’t forget Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraiser on October 7. Come early for the bake sale and breakfast, browse the rummage sale, and stay longer for the lunch plates.
All proceeds support our local fire department’s financial needs. In future months please consider baking an item for them to sell, seems baked goods are in higher demand than supply.
Equality Performing Arts Center’s (EPAC) next event is Open Mic Night the second Friday, October 13. Come enjoy the house band or come share your own talents with us. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
