Last week Keslie Garrett, Central High School (CHS) career coach, took the business information technology students on the first Chew and Chat of the school year.
The students started the day with Mrs. Suzanne Scott, assistant vice president at First Bank of Rockford. Mrs. Scott explained the different employment positions available at her location, including the responsibilities of each position.
Next, the students headed to Auburn University to tour the Harbert College of Business led by a great Auburn tour guide. The students raved about how beautiful the campus is; they especially loved the terrace. After the tour and enjoying the terrace, the students heard from a panel of current students and a professor. The panel helped several students sway more towards Auburn in their college choice decision. Many of the students agreed with what the panelists said, “Auburn just feels like home.”
After grabbing lunch from Chick-fil-A Auburn, the students stopped at Lee Marketing Group in Alexander City for a brief run through of the employment opportunities within their company. The Lee Marketing Group representatives were so nice and happy to share how they got into the business with our students. Mrs. Garrett said, “Thank you to everyone who made this day possible and to our sponsors! Our students learned so much from the day!”
This year CHS Career Coach Keslie Garrett will be taking our students on monthly Chew and Chats based on different career clusters. Each trip will be tailored to the career cluster, with students invited based on the results of their career cluster survey.
We strive to offer Chew and Chats at no financial cost to our students. In order to provide this opportunity to our students, we are requesting sponsorships. Sponsorships include covering snacks and lunch for the students. Please email Keslie Garrett at kgarrett@coosaschools.org if you or your organization is interested in sponsoring one of our upcoming Chew and Chats.
