Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I was out of town for a week, helping some folks. I worked hard, but will have to work harder to catch up with everything at home and at the store.
I am so behind, but I did get the lawn mowed, and that is a blessing. I worked out a deal where I mow a neighbor’s yard and get to use their mower for my own; it is a riding lawnmower and what a blessing after using a push mower for decades!
Jenny’s General has some renovations to get finished and hopes to be reopened in two weeks if not sooner. Waiting for a permit before ordering new inventory is the major holdup as to when to reopen, waiting on bureaucracy! Once the permit is granted and received there will be a grand reopening event planned.
Did I forget to tell you that we have three kittens? Seems that I got many calls about kittens needing homes and now have three. I had only wanted girls, but now have one girl and two boys, and as I have experienced in the past, the boys are already creating issues.
One, Bob, because he was born with a bobbed tail, doesn’t like litter boxes but does like the bathtub. Need to break that habit quickly. The other was called Annoying Orange Cat (AOC) until we discovered AOC was a boy, so my husband renamed him Bozo. He seems not as quick on the uptake as the other two and always under our feet. They all have a new home and new family with us and will be staying, annoying or not.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department is holding their Labor Day Boston Butt and Rib Sale fundraiser. You can contact Jackie Dean, Jean Moe Prince, or Susan Selman to order yours, or email equalityvfd@outlook.com. Thank you for your continued support.
August’s Neighborhood Watch meeting will be Thursday, August 24. The new sign will be displayed out front along Alabama Highway 9 reminding all that the meeting will be held at 6:30 on Thursday. The last meeting was very informative, as well as a time to meet and greet neighbors and enjoy good eats potluck style.
Coosa Fancy is offering their fall CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), where you sign up for a type of food subscription. One fee gets you weekly food that they harvest such as cabbage, radishes, greens, salad mix, broccolini, etc. Pickup at their local farm is $200 which comes out to be $25 a week. They also have pickup locations in Alexander City, Dadeville and Montgomery for $300. Visit https://coosa-fancy.com/csainfo for more information.
Equality Performing Arts Center’s (EPAC) next event is karaoke, Friday, August 18. While Jenny’s General is closed, EPAC is open so ignore the sign and come out and enjoy a fun evening.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
