Goodwater Police Department is seeking to hire both full-time and part-time officers to fill vacancies within the department following recent resignations.
Police Chief Johnny Potts confirmed that two police officers quit at Tuesday evening’s Goodwater Town Council meeting. He explained that they did it with a sealed envelope to Mayor Lonnie Caldwell and the Town Council stating that they could no longer work there.
The two officers who quit were Cassius Harrison and George Smith. Potts stated that they were not happy with the leadership they were under and as such had said they were going to quit and that they could not work there anymore.
“It’s me and a couple of other officers right now,” Potts said. “We’re trying to figure it out and do some other things, probably get some help from the county and go that way until I can get some other officers out here.”
Potts added that the Goodwater Police Department is accepting applications and said they are hiring for full-time and part-time positions and those who are already certified as they are looking to fill those positions as soon as possible.
“Come see me,” Potts said, for anyone interested in applying. “We’ll work something out.”
Sheriff Michael Howell said that the Sheriff’s Office is assisting Potts and the department with coverage of the Goodwater area in the meantime. He said that he is also working with Potts to help find a solution to fill the vacancies within the department.
Goodwater Police Department is located along Alabama Highway 9 in downtown Goodwater, and those interested in applying for a job as a part-time or full-time officer can visit the station to fill out an application. Those interested can also call the department at 256-839-6321 for more information.
