Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
This heat and all of life’s pressures has me spent! I am just tired, exhausted and depleted, so this will be short. I will be taking some time to care for my grandson while my husband is out of town helping a friend.
Foundation work was completed on the old farmhouse, and the floors are level and feel quite solid. We need to get rid of all our pigs, just too much to manage right now. We are offering really great deals on them and may just end up donating them if no one is interested.
Jenny’s General is closed while remodeling. Just some paint and new displays with new product lines coming soon. Unfortunately, not the full renovation hoped for – still need that new septic system that everyone that has an opinion says don’t bother because Equality will never support another business. I disagree and still hope and pray it happens despite negative opinions, but for now, look for a grand reopening in the near future.
July’s Neighborhood Watch meeting was last Thursday, July 27, and 19 were in attendance. The new sign was displayed out front along Highway 9, so anyone driving by could see that meeting was going to be held at 6:30 on Thursday.
The meeting was very informative, as well as a time to meet and greet neighbors and enjoy good eats potluck style. Hope to see you at this month’s meeting, which is the fourth Thursday of each month, so August 24.
Don’t forget to support Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraising event on August 5, tomorrow. Your support is appreciated in any form, from donating a baked good to the purchase of a baked good. Or purchase breakfast or lunch and shop at the rummage sale.
Also, they are holding their Labor Day Boston Butt and Rib sale fundraiser. They sold out during the July 4 sale, so be sure to order yours early. You can contact Jackie Dean, Jean Moe Prince, or Susan Selman to order yours, or email equalityvfd@outlook.com. Thank you for your continued support.
Equality Performing Arts Center’s (EPAC) next event is an Open Mic Night on Friday, August 11. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
