Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s August! Happy birthday to all those celebrating birthdays this month, including my youngest and my oldest brother. There’s a lot going on this week.
Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have bingo on Saturday, August 5, at 6:30 p.m. Come out and join the fun while helping support the fire department. We had a great crowd last month.
Don’t forget to order your Boston Butt from the Richville Fire Department. They will be available on Saturday morning, September 2.
Union Baptist Church will have its homecoming on Sunday, August 6, beginning at 10 a.m. Special music by After Grace with Bro. Bill Morris bringing the message. All are invited; they want to “pack the church.” Then August 20–23 they will have revival with Bro. Caleb Willingham as the guest preacher.
Sardis Baptist Church will have a fellowship meal after church this Sunday. Bring your favorite recipe to share! Providence Baptist Church continues to seek a pastor.
School starts on Monday, August 7! So, watch out for the big yellow buses as they pick up children in the county. It seems that it wasn’t long ago that school had their last day before summer break.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch is reorganizing with its first meeting planned for Thursday, August 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the fire department. Everyone in the Richville area is invited to help get things going again. Spread the word and invite or bring someone.
The Coosa County Historical Society met with a small attendance, but we still have big plans for our coming year. They want to thank the Rockford Methodist Church for allowing them to use their fellowship hall.
Dr. Troglen in his sermon used the scripture from I Samuel 17 about David and Goliath. We all have Goliaths in our lives. It may not be a physical person, but we need to face whatever obstacle is in the way of our lives and be a David.
There are several verses about strength in the Bible which can help us heal our souls. The Bible tells us that strength comes from God and our faith in Him. Isaiah 40:31 reads, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Hope in this verse is not the same as how we use the word hope. Hope stands for faith and belief in God, not wishful thinking. Just as the word “love” is often overused, so is the word “hope.” We hope to do this or that, but that is not what Isaiah meant.
“Hope” as used by Isaiah promises us a renewal in our hearts that God is with us through all our struggles and troubles. It gives us the courage to face life regardless of our circumstances.
There were two tragic wrecks this past week that claimed the lives of residents of our county. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the families. There are several others in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will, as well. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
