Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
My garden has been taken over by invasive weeds and insects. I just couldn’t stay on top of them while also going out of town. It took just a few days and all was over for my summer garden. If I can find some time I will work it up and try for a fall harvest garden.
Jenny’s General is still working on some changes and rearrangements and did get in some new products from WeMade, a nonprofit social enterprise in Birmingham. They offer workforce development that helps people with disabilities and other barriers to employment achieve their highest vocational potential. Products include natural fire starters, natural insect repellent, and natural Stinky dog spray that also works as a flea repellent with lavender and lemongrass.
July’s Neighborhood Watch meeting was Thursday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. Look for the new sign to be displayed as you drive on Highway 9 in the coming weeks. The meetings are informative, as well as a time to meet and greet neighbors and enjoy good eats potluck style.
Don’t forget to support Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraising event on August 5. Your support is appreciated in any form from donating a baked good to the purchase of a baked good. Or purchase breakfast or lunch, and shop at the rummage sale.
Equality Performing Arts Center’s (EPAC) next event is a performance by Kevin Smith and Kenny Robertson tonight, Friday, July 27. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
