On Wednesday, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction of Terrance Jermaine Holder, age 43 of Jefferson County, for capital murder. Holder was convicted in the Jefferson County Circuit Court on June 17, 2022.
The evidence at trial showed that Holder got into a dispute over a piece of property owned by his current girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend.
At some point, Holder and his girlfriend lived on the property for several days and got into a confrontation with the victims, Tommie Shyrie and Crystal Pickett, when Holder contended that his girlfriend still owned an interest in the residence.
During the subsequent argument, Holder shot and killed the victims who were later discovered in separate rooms of the house. Holder confessed to the murders during police interrogation.
Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr’s office successfully prosecuted this case and obtained the guilty verdict. Holder was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Holder sought to have his conviction reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Holder’s conviction. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, June 16.
