Claude Lee Hill
Funeral service for Claude Lee Hill, 70, of Goodwater, was Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Radney-Smith Chapel. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
Mr. Hill died Sunday, June 18, 2023, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Hill.
He is survived by his dearest friends, Bruce Isbell and Terry Minor.

John Joe Penton Jr.
Funeral service for Mr. John Joe Penton Jr., 80, of Alexander City, was Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Pastor Ronnie Palmer officiated. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park.
Joe passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023. He was born on February 7, 1943, in Coosa County to John Joe Penton Sr. and Roxie Annie Johnston Penton. Joe loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren who called him “Paw Paw.” He also loved attending the grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Joe enjoyed spending summers on Lake Martin at the cabin with his family and friends. He was a member of Alexander City Methodist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. Joe was a building contractor for many years and had a life-long passion for woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Scroggins Penton; daughters, Kristen “Krissy” Gordon Hamby (Michael) and Angela Penton Pitts (Brad); grandchildren, Braxton Pitts (fiance` Elizabeth), Georganna Hamby, Brett Pitts, and Mary Grantleigh Hamby; sisters, Betty Ann Estes and Joyce “Polly” Catrett (John).
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maggie Dean; and brothers, Bennett Penton, John Penton, Ed Penton, and Elzie Penton.

Nellie Robinson Ransome
Funeral service for Mrs. Nellie Robinson Ransome, 93, of Jacksons Gap, was Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the LifePoint Church of God of Prophecy. Pastor Adam Wade, Rev. Wynn Knowles and Bishop Clint Knowles officiated. Burial followed in the Alexander City Cemetery.
Mrs. Ransome passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on February 12, 1930, in Coosa County to Joseph Chandler Robinson and Mamie Kate Cushing Robinson. She was a longtime member of LifePoint Church of God of Prophecy and was the oldest living member. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and baking. She was very generous and was always doing for others.
She is survived by her daughter, Mamie Lee Knowles of Jacksons Gap; son, Samuel Clyde Ransome (Connie) of Alexander City; grandchildren, G. Clint Knowles (Elizabeth), Samuel Jason Knowles (Amy), Meagan K. Ogletree, and Joshua James Ransome (Sheri); great-grandchildren, Gabriel Wynn Knowles (Jen), Michael Ashton Knowles (Breanne), Elizabeth Brianne Gann (Hayden), Samuel Nathan Ransome, John Tyler Ransome, Kayden Elisabeth Knowles, Logan Samuel Knowles, Samuel Jayse Bailey, and Christopher Jaxson Bailey; great-great-grandson, Aiden James Gann; sisters, Ora Dessa Mallory and Laurel Elsie Hendrix (Raymond); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel Ransome; sisters, Annie Jean Yarbrough, Mamie Ruth Guy and Delilah Rachel Lee Smith; brothers, J.C. Robinson, James Wessie Robinson, Joseph Timmons Robinson, Thomas Willard Robinson, Jimmy Robinson, and Julius Robinson; and son-in-law, Gary Clinton Knowles.

Pauline Norris Thomas
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Pauline Norris Thomas was held Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Central Coosa High School Gymnasium with Moderator Stanford Benson officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Goodwater.
Pauline Bradford Norris Thomas’ earthly journey began on October 23, 1932, in Coosa County to the parents of Mr. Warren Bradford and Exie Thomas Bradford.
Mrs. Thomas accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in life and united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Goodwater, where she faithfully served until God called her home on June 9, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Thomas was educated at ICS Newport / Pacific High School where she graduated. She furthered her education and attended Birmingham Baptist Easonian College, Birmingham. She began her working career as an insurance agent until her retirement. She enjoyed her God-gifted talents as a beautician, seamstress and musician.
Mrs. Thomas served as the president of the Missionary Society, Sunday School teacher, church secretary for Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Goodwater, and served as Northeast State Convention worship leader, Alabama State Convention lecturer. She also served in many capacities, helping build God’s Kingdom, carrying the good news “God’s Word” near and far. She served as president of Morning Star District Women’s Auxiliary for 30 years and earned the title of Emeritus President until her departure.
Mrs. Thomas was a proverb woman, homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Her love will forever be cherished by her loving children, Belinda Horton (Robert), Exie Sterns, Rev. Berlyn Norris (Farie), and Zabralara McGhee; nine loving grandchildren, Christopher Horton (Teresa), Terrance Horton (Misty), Euphemia Broussard (Sean), Leah Robinson (Pastor William), Nacoma Norris (Tonya), Nadrado Norris (Shun), Narenzo Norris (Melanie), Marsala Mitchell (Cedric), Cedric Ledale Richardson; extended grandchildren, Alfredia Castille, Sylvia Harrison, Kevin Simmons, and Tyrone Parker; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
