Central High School welcomes back Kelli Hilyer to its staff as a math interventionist instructor. Mrs. Hilyer is in her twentieth year of teaching and says, “I am very excited to be rejoining the CHS family as a math interventionist, and I look forward to serving the students and the community.”
Mrs. Hilyer’s goal as a math interventionist instructor is to provide all students the best opportunity to learn and succeed academically. In addition, Mrs. Hilyer is currently pursuing a master’s degree in school counseling and enjoys reading, watching and coaching volleyball and softball, and anything Disney. Pictured is Mrs. Hilyer with her husband and daughter, Kiera, who will be joining the student body of CHS.
Central High School also welcomes Vernon Harmon to its staff as the seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher. Mr. Vernon holds a degree from Auburn University and recently returned to the area after retiring as a business owner.
Mr. Vernon has 35 years experience in the service and manufacturing industries. Mr. Vernon owned and operated a multi-million dollar service business for 19 years, and in addition he has 17 years experience in the printing industry holding multiple financial and manufacturing management positions throughout the United States.
When asked about his teaching philosophy Mr. Vernon said, “Kids come first; if the kids are not learning the material, then I need to change my approach to teaching them.”
Mr. Vernon is also joining the football coaching staff at Central High School. He has 15 years of experience coaching football at a large high school in Georgia. Mr. Vernon added, “I am excited to help Central High School.”
We are thankful for the passion Mrs. Hilyer and Mr. Harmon bring to teaching and athletics, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on our student body.
