Gervantee Laney

An Alexander City man was arrested late last month on kidnapping- and robbery-related charges following an incident that occurred in Kellyton.
On May 20 a report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office regarding the case. According to reports, the offender had a firearm and approached the victim.
The two had some discussion, and the offender proceeded to bring out his firearm and hold it to the victim’s head, allegedly threatening to shoot him.
The offender further ordered the victim to drive him to Alexander City from Kellyton. He reportedly also took the victim’s phone and made the victim send him funds via Cash App.
Sheriff Michael Howell said that the victim only knew the offender by a nickname. However, the Sheriff’s Office was able to determine who the individual was and identified 21-year-old Gervantee Laney as the suspect.
Warrants were signed on Laney for first-degree robbery because of him possessing a firearm and demanding property from the victim and also for kidnapping because of physically restraining the victim to the point that he took Laney to another city.
As such, Laney was arrested May 24 on the specific charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping. He has no bond for those charges and remains in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
