Dr. Basel Refai and his wife, Nora, enjoy the grand opening ceremony for Lake Martin Medical Center.

Lake Martin Medical Center held its grand opening on May 11, at 815 Lee Street in Alexander City. Dr. Basel Refai and his staff made it available for his patients and non-patients to enjoy a wonderful evening at his new location, one of the nicest doctor’s offices in town.
Dr. Refai and his staff are some wonderful and kind people, working for the people. They deserve the best!
I thank God for that. He gives nothing but the best. I have seen the professional side of Dr. Refai and his staff with much love and kindness. However, on May 11, I saw the non-professional, personal side with all the love and kindness, and it was all genuine.
I thought about writing about this event in a more professional way, but everyone was so down to earth, including Dr. Refai and his wife. I said I will get down, too, and write straight up.
I told Nurse Dawn that the celebration was awesome and so real. She said to me, “Mrs. Ruby, this is the side of us that I wish all our patients could see. We love being silly and just being ourselves. Patients like you are what keep us motivated and loving our jobs.”
Those words blessed me, and I thank Nurse Dawn. She is a sweet nurse. I told her you all are not silly; you all are just human with titles and love to enjoy life like everyone else. All of you proved it on May 11. Butch and I enjoyed everything about the event, but mostly just seeing you all enjoying it while not on duty.
I have to give it up for my doctor and his wife. They looked adorable, like a royal king and queen. To see Dr. Refai not at work, enjoying life with his staff and patients – for me to see the benefit of his hard work made my heart leap with joy.
He deserves every bit of it, and to have his wife by his side made all the difference. I am very proud of my doctor. He is the greatest doctor and has the greatest staff.
I believe his wife can say he is the greatest man God has ever made. They are a beautiful couple who seemed to be on a special date that day. It was a beautiful day for the ribbon cutting. The new office is one to love and appreciate. I speak nothing but blessings over it.
