Several hundred people converged in downtown Rockford Saturday for Spring Fling in the Park with vendors and food trucks lining Nixburg Road near the town park, where additional activities were set up for youth to enjoy, as well as take advantage of the available playground equipment for a fun day out with the family.
Guests were able to enjoy live musical entertainment with the band County Line Kings performing for the duration of the event. Attendees also were able to peruse, shop with and eat from 32 vendors, some selling wares, some offering food, and others with information from various organizations.
This year’s event also included a car, truck and motorcycle show, which saw 17 vehicles parked at the Department of Human Resources’ building for those participants. Guests enjoyed checking out classic and more modern vehicles alike, including a classic Cadillac ambulance/hearse combination featuring the famous “Ecto-1” New York license plate and Ghostbusters insignia, with Ghostbusters’ gear also on display.
Children enjoyed playing the kids’ games with prizes, as well as having their faces painted by Megan Jones.
A dunking booth was also available, much to the delight of children and adults alike. Used as a fundraiser for BridgeWays Coosa County, the dunking booth raised $135 for the organization to put towards its summer educational field trips for local youth.
Numerous guests and vendors alike commented on how nice the day was and how much they enjoyed it, with some also saying that the change in location made things seem “cozier,” as well as safer.
Mayor Scott White stated, “Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a huge success. The town had a great turnout, and we’re looking forward to next year.”
The next events the Town of Rockford will host and that others can look forward to will be in the fall, including Halloween, Veterans Day and the annual Christmas event and parade. To stay up to date on town happenings, follow Rockford on social media at www.facebook.com/rockfordalabama.
