In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
I don’t have as much of an update on the PRICE Act like I had hoped to have. Unfortunately the Senate Finance Taxation Education Committee that was scheduled to discuss the bill on May 3 canceled its hearing. But the House Education Policy Committee DID have a hearing, and it was standing room only, including ALGOP Chair John Wahl.
Again, both proponents and opponents were able to speak to the committee, but no vote was put forward. It was reported that the committee would continue reviewing the information and a vote will be presented at “a future date.”
So, another week of the legislative session has passed with no real action on providing parents the right and ability to determine the education of their children. The Senate Finance Taxation Education Committee and the House Education Policy Committee had scheduled another hearing for this week, May 10, but the House has already canceled its hearing. Since I’m writing this on Monday the eigtth, I’ll hope that the Senate committee will not cancel its again.
I will continue to keep you updated because the clock is ticking, and the legislature seems to be doing all it can to not bring the PRICE Act to a vote this year. Only our children are being hurt by this delay – sad.
School Choice is just one of the efforts going on around the country to return the responsibility for children to their parents rather than the decisions on the child decided by the government. Within the education system, children are being exposed to topics and ideas that have no place in public education – non-age-appropriate sex education, gender transitioning, non-American philosophies and history, and a lack of basic reading and math skills. If this is what a parent WANTS their child taught, that’s certainly their decision. But if the parent DOES NOT want their child exposed to this, he/she/they should have the right to send their child to an alternate school, and they should not have to pay out of their own pockets in order to do it.
I just don’t understand why any parent would be against this legislation. It is entirely voluntary and will benefit the middle- and lower-income families the most. Wealthy parents have the options and abilities to provide their children with an education more in line with their learning abilities, but other families are locked into the government schools because of their income levels. Families with several children would certainly benefit from school choice!
And the national level this week is going to be jam packed with major issues! Without an increase in the debt limit, before the end of the month the government will be forced to shut down (but not really). President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, and Minority Member Hakeem Jeffries were supposed to meet this past Tuesday to discuss the situation, but President Biden has already stated there will be no compromise. He will not consider making any budget cuts. We’ll see if there is any movement.
On Wednesday there was supposed to be a huge amount of information released on the Biden family and their finances showing they have been receiving money from foreign entities in return for favorable legislation. The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Accountability has asked the Department of Justice to hold off on charging Hunter Biden this week on some gun and tax issues until the new information has been released Wednesday.
The expected information is supposedly going to connect the entire Biden family and associates in a pay-for-play scheme that has been going on since Joe Biden was vice president (or possibly before). The FBI has until May 10 to produce the documents proving these allegations before the other evidence is released.
Then on Thursday – unless a last-minute extension is made – we will have seen the end of Title 42 that will allow a massive number of illegal immigrants to cross our border “legally.” Doesn’t that sound strange! Legally illegal! Even with Title 42 in place there have been more than 6,000 illegal immigrants coming across the southern border EVERY DAY. That’s 180,000 people every MONTH.
Keep in mind that is equivalent to 18 times the entire population of Coosa County coming into our country EVERY MONTH! Can you imagine how many MORE will be coming in once Title 42 ends? We are being overrun by people who do not contribute anything to our economy, but do drain our medical, funding and education systems. And there is one of the main reasons we are out of money and need to increase our borrowing power so we can continue to take care of people who are not citizens of our country! Wouldn’t it be nice to help Americans a little more – like our veterans?
If we could cut out the massive amounts of money that are being spent on people who should not even be in our country, we would have more available to spend on the needs of Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. Our older citizens on fixed incomes are having to decide whether to buy food or their medications or pay their rent. All three of those things are being provided free of charge to illegal immigrants. It’s time we look out for our American citizens before all these other people.
Please spend some time this week praying for our country, county and towns. We need our “leaders” to understand that they were elected to be OUR VOICE and not their own. Our government has totally overstepped the bounds of our Constitution on how our system of governing was meant to be. God bless you all.
