The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
Part of the deal with having an anonymous column is that I do not call out individuals by name. But boy, did I have a great big buzzard laugh when I read Ms. Christa’s article about the County Commission meeting in last week’s paper.
It would seem that a concerned citizen actually took the time to document his road situation and prepare a presentation to the meeting. Most folks don’t have that kind of time…they have to work, or at least do chores or some such.
But this concerned citizen is not alone. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of examples of ridiculously bad roads around the county. All you have to do is fly over. Perhaps the article should have been subtitled “A Travesty Exposed.”
Not only do we have a county engineer’s crew who does not seem to understand drainage issues or preventative maintenance, the office lacks communication skills and oversight. And they can get away with being rude to a taxpaying citizen in a public meeting.
The commissioners don’t seem to have much luck overseeing performance in this area either. There is no plan for road maintenance, no training requirements for equipment operators, no priority system for emergencies (like flood damage that keeps people stranded), no published job descriptions (at least not available to “the News” as of press time), and little evidence of cooperation and communication. I thought they were supposed to be managing the county.
And the budget? What budget? If we truly only have money to repair six miles out of six hundred, we have a bigger problem than the engineer’s office. Maybe that’s what Rep. Robbins needs to hear about – from the commissioners.
We deserve a lot better, folks. Stay tuned. I’ll be your eye in the sky.
Love,
Buzzy
