The Goodwater Volunteer Fire Department was pleased to report recently that it received its new Medic I ambulance on March 30 at 11 a.m., and the ambulance was ready to answer calls by 4 p.m. that same day.
Per Goodwater Fire Chief Elmore Unbehant, “This has been a 5-month journey since October 25, 2022, when my personal life and quality of life changed forever because of what I love doing.”
“I want to first thank John Blue with Alabama EMS Council for finding a way for grant funds to be available in [this] emergency to get our department back better than we were. Mr. Blue has done so much for not just us, but for all EMS operations in Alabama. I don’t know where we would be without him.”
Unbehant and the department also extends its gratitude to Brock Butts with Southern Emergency Consultants for getting their need to the front of the line, as well as David and Sharon Ward with the Epps-Jefferson Foundation for help with grant match funding.
“My highest thanks to my wife, children and my fire department family for always taking great care of me and never minding [the] sacrifices it takes to volunteer in emergency services,” Unbehant stated. “I’m humbles and so thankful that I get to work with some of the best people on the planet. Medic I is in service and available.”
