After eluding law enforcement since late January, an Alexander City man was recently arrested in Goodwater and taken into custody by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Alan Sandlin Jr. previously eluded law enforcement in a high-speed chase through Coosa County on January 28, as reported in the February 3 edition of “The Coosa County News.” Sandlin had warrants through other agencies, and on that day when police with the Alexander City Police Department attempted to stop him in Alexander City, he led them on the chase into Coosa County.
While attempting to elude law enforcement, he eventually wrecked the vehicle west of County Road 150 in Stewartville at U.S. Highway 280, hitting another vehicle and reportedly causing a crash there.
Sandlin exited the vehicle and fled on foot, eventually being seen at a local gas station where he reportedly brandished a firearm.
The Sheriff’s Office proceeded to contact the state K-9 team to assist with the search, as well as the state helicopter unit to conduct flyovers in the search for Sandlin. However, they were unable to locate and apprehend him at that time.
In addition to the warrants already issued for Sandlin, following that incident Alexander City took out additional warrants on Sandlin.
Last week, on April 7, law enforcement received information that Sandlin was in the Goodwater area in the Mountain View Apartments. Authorities responded to the area, and upon making contact with Sandlin they also found drugs and a firearm.
Sandlin was arrested, and during the course of his arrest he was in possession of 1.35 pounds of marijuana, a Glock pistol that was reported stolen from Georgia, Glock switches, a red dot scope, and more than $4,000 in cash.
Sandlin was taken into custody and transported to the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office for outstanding warrants.
Additionally, Sandlin now has pending charges in Coosa County for first-degree possession of marijuana, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol and second-degree receiving stolen property. Sheriff Michael Howell stated that Sandlin will likely face additional charges in Coosa County, as well as federal charges.
Sandlin is currently being held in custody in Tallapoosa County with his bond set at $62,000 cash. Once finished in Tallapoosa County, he will be transferred to Coosa County to face his local charges.
Following the arrest last week, Howell stated, “This has been an ongoing search for Alan Sandlin Jr. since he eluded Alexander City officers and Coosa County deputies a couple of weeks ago. I appreciate the public’s help with providing information to help our deputies and officers take Alan Sandlin Jr. into custody. There were several agencies involved with the apprehension of Sandlin Jr. I would like to thank the United State Marshal Gulf Coast Task Force, Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, Alexander City Police Department, Department of Corrections K-9 Division, Lee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, and deputies, investigators and reserve deputies with the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office.”
