A Georgia man was arrested in Coosa County Monday on drug-related charges following a call from a concerned citizen.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on April 10 the Sheriff’s Office received a call to County Road 173 near the Pentonville community regarding what appeared to be a motorcycle wreck. He said the caller reported there was a man laying in the road.
Howell and Investigator Travis Ward responded to the area and made contact with the man, identified as 55-year-old Robert William Michael of Jackson, Georgia. Howell stated that it turned out Michael did not have a wreck after all.
In talking with him, he said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from him. He further stated that Michael had just finished smoking a joint, or a rolled marijuana cigarette.
Howell and Ward talked to Michael and searched his property. That led to them locating numerous pills believed to be ecstasy, as well as two jars of marijuana, a small amount of THC wax and a glass pipe.
Ultimately Michael was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His total bond for all three charges was set at $10,000. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
