A young man from McCalla who was still incarcerated in Coosa County because of an arrest made last month now faces additional sexual-related charges.
As previously reported, Christopher Nelson, 20 years old, was arrested on February 5 on the charges of second-degree rape and third-degree criminal trespassing. At that time the Sheriff’s Office also reported that it expected Nelson would face additional charges.
On March 10, Nelson was further charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of second-degree sodomy.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that Investigator Ward has continued working on this case involving a juvenile victim. He added that it was an ongoing investigation involving child pornography, sodomy and rape.
Howell stated that they were able to process some evidence that led to the recent additional charges. More specifically, he said they combed through the evidence further and sent some of that evidence to the Department of Forensic Sciences.
As of press time, Nelson remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial for his 13 total charges.
Hid total bond is now set at $195,500. His initial bond was $15,500 for the rape and criminal trespassing charges, and his new bond for the child pornography and sodomy charges is $180,000.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4911 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
