Special to the News
The Coosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee recently donated copies of the book “I Love Strawberries” to the Rockford Public Library, the Goodwater Library and the Central Elementary School Coosa County library.
Additionally, the committee also donated clothes to the elementary school’s clothes closet for the children.
Shirley Thompson and Susan Rodgers, librarians for Goodwater and Rockford respectively, were pleased to receive the donated books. Maressa Ware, PTO president, was also pleased to receive the donated books, as well as the donation of clothes.
“I Love Strawberries,” written by Shannon Anderson and illustrated by Jaclyn Sinquett, tells the story of Jolie, a young girl who loves strawberries so much that she begins a mission to grow her own. The book serves as a colorful and fun introduction to the joy of growing strawberries.
The story is fun, but also educational, and includes a great deal of information such as tips on growing strawberries, integrated pest management, how strawberries grow, how good gardeners take care of their strawberry plants, and much more.
The story is described as being “a great read before a family trip to a strawberry patch, a garden store, or in a classroom talking about healthy eating and growing your own food.”
Thanks to this donation from the Coosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee, area youth are encouraged to check this delightful and informative book out at their local library or from the school library.
