Although this is the first year of the Jobs for Alabama’s Graduates (JAG) program at Central High School, senior Makenna Sanders brought home the first place title for Financial Literacy for the state of Alabama. The competition took place during the JAG State Career Development Conference in Birmingham Tuesday. The competition included a written test which consisted of 50 fill-in-the-blank questions with a 60-minute time limit based on practical money and basic budgeting skills; credit, debit and prepaid card basics; credit score; money management; and retirement basics. Makenna will now head to Orlando, Florida, for the National Career Development Conference in April to compete for the national title in Financial Literacy. Thank you to Central’s JAG coach, Ms. Debbie Phillips, for inspiring our students to compete and coordinating event participation. Makenna, we will be cheering you on the whole way.
