Biology student Jocelyn Xool is using micropipets to transfer DNA to gel wells in preparation for gel electrophoresis to study DNA fingerprinting.
Chemistry students Elijah Richardson, Samaria Owens and Jayden Moore are practicing liquid transfers with volumetric pipets, making one molar concentrations of copper (II) sulfate, and making dilutions of solutions.
Physics student Emily Garcia used a soda can as a calorimeters to measure the heat given off by burning snack foods: circus peanuts, cheese puffs, peanuts, marshmallows, and onion rings. The number of calories per gram were calculated for each snack food and compared to the information on the nutritional label. Their experimental results were very consistent with the information on the labels.
Special thank you to Science Coach Shelley Wood who coordinates lab activities in conjunction with science teachers Jacques Mitchell and Mary White.
