The sun radiates with heat.
How about this for a fancy definition of the beaming star that provides light and warmth from millions of miles away: “The sun is the star at the center of the solar system. It is a nearly perfect ball of hot plasma, heated to incandescence by nuclear fusion reactions in its core. The sun radiates this energy mainly as light, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation, and is the most important source of energy for life on earth.”
The sun’s surface temperature is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Bible leads us back to the sun’s origin. It was created to provide light and warmth.
Genesis 1:16 reads, “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.”
The amazing aspect is the sun’s location 93 million miles from the earth enables perfect conditions for human existence. Though temperatures vary from season to season, they are such that man can thrive on the earth. Sunlight is also pivotal for plant growth and even providing vitamins for men’s health.
Stay out long enough on a warm sunny day, and you’ll get a tan or a sunburn. You might look like a red lobster.
Physical light comes from the sun.
Spiritual light comes from the Sun of Righteousness – Jesus Christ.
There are three that bear record in Heaven – the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. That means the Word took on a human body, journeying all the way from Heaven – a far, far greater distance than the sun – as Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
Spiritually speaking, the world was full of darkness, but Jesus lit it up with light that exceeds the brightness of the sun. And there was Light on the earth.
That spiritual light became available to men who walked in darkness because of sin separating them from God.
I saw the light. Saul saw the light and was converted into Paul.
Ephesians 5:14 reads, “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
Saul’s famous trip on the road to Damascus revealed the power of Jesus’ light. Saul experienced it and became Paul. He later testified of that light in front of King Agrippa.
“At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.” – Acts 26:16
The amazing facet of Jesus is His great light that He can impart to humans who repent of their sin and call on Him by faith.
That fact is evident when Jesus began his ministry after his temptation in the wilderness at the age of 30. He began to preach repentance to men at that point.
Matthew 4:13-17 states, “And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nepthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The Land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
In II Peter 1:19, the author encourages people to receive the Lord’s light into their hearts. Sin is forgiven, and the light of righteousness that radiates from Christ is imparted.
“…whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark lace, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”
The transformation of light is evident in I John 2:8, which states the Lord’s light has chased away darkness from our hearts.
“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him (Jesus) and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”
Jesus also said He was the light of the world while He was in it. He imparted that light to His Church and to His people.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
