PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING MAY 24, 2022, PRIMARY ELECTION and AVAILABILITY OF REGISTRATION AND VOTING AIDS
STATE OF ALABAMA
PROBATE COURT
COUNTY OF COOSA
May 24, 2022
Pursuant to the Code of Alabama (1975), as Amended, §21-4-23(b); notice is hereby given of the following regarding Coosa County, Alabama, voters:
- Instructions, printed in large type, will be conspicuously displayed at each voter registration site and polling facility. The instructions will be of sufficient size so as to provide hearing impaired and/or seriously visually impaired individuals with adequate information as to how and where individuals may register to vote and where registered voters may cast their votes.
- Although paper ballots must be used in all Alabama elections, every polling facility including the Absentee Election facility in Coosa County will have an ExpressVote Universal Voting System available for use by individuals with disabilities who would otherwise be prevented from voting because of their inability to mark a paper ballot.
- Absentee ballots are available to any individual with a disability or elderly individual who, because of disability or age, is unable to go to their assigned polling facility to vote on Election Day. The deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot is the same as it is for other persons seeking to vote an absentee ballot.
- Every voter, including voters with a disability or elderly voters, may select a person of his or her choosing to accompany the voter into the polling place and assist the voter with the marking and casting of their ballot. However, the person providing assistance cannot be the voter’s employer, agent of the voter’s employer, or an officer or agent of the voter’s labor union. The assisting person and the voter must both sign the electronic voter list.
- The Primary Election shall be held on May 24, 2022, and polling facilities will be open continuously from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. All voters in the voting line at 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballots. Voters may not enter the voting line after 7:00 p.m.

The Coosa County News – March 18, 2022
Primary Election, May 24, 2022
Alabama Gubernatorial elections will be held this year. Alabama will hold its primary election for the Democrat and Republican political parties on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. The Primary Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
The Primary Election is a step toward selecting candidates for the offices that will appear on the November 8, 2022, General Election ballot. In the Primary Election, only offices with more than one qualified candidate running within the respective party will be listed on the ballot. If there is only one qualified candidate within the party for a particular office, that candidate will be the party’s candidate and will only appear on the November 8, 2022, General Election ballot. For all offices affecting Coosa County with multiple candidates within either the Democrat or Republican parties, sample ballots will be published as soon as they are available.
The Primary Election is a “party election.” To participate in the 2022 Primary Election on May 24, 2022, a voter must be registered to vote, present proper Identification, then declare and vote either a Democrat Party ballot or a Republican Party ballot. There can be no split-party voting in the primary elections. Any voter voting in the Primary must also vote the same party affiliation in the Primary Runoff if that voter votes in the Primary Runoff Election. Any voter not voting in the Primary Election may declare/select either party in the Primary Runoff Election. In the November 8, 2022, General Election, there will be one ballot, and voters may vote for anyone on the ballot regardless of party affiliation. If you have any questions regarding the 2022 Primary Election, please call the Probate Office at 256-377-4919 Option 1 or 2, or e-mail us at CoosaCountyProbate@outlook.com.
As a reminder, all Coosa County Polling Facilities/Places are handicap accessible and have all the required voting equipment to assist voters with the voting process. Any voter may bring someone to assist the voter in casting a ballot or ask any person (except an employer or union representative) the voter desires to assist the voter with casting a ballot. Please note, curbside voting in Alabama is expressly prohibited, all voting must be accomplished inside the polling facility. Ballots may not be taken outside the polling facility.
Polling facility locations are the same as they were for the 2020 elections. They are: Absentee (Courthouse); Community Life Center, Cottage Grove; Equality United Methodist Church New Fellowship Hall; Goodwater Community Center; Hanover Fire Department; Kellyton Civic Complex Cafeteria; Marble Valley Fire Department; Mt. Olive Community Center; Ray Fire Department; Richville Fire Department; Rockford Event Center; Weogufka Center for Arts (Old High School lunchroom); and West Coosa Senior Center, Stewartville.
Although Absentee voting will remain in the Courthouse, Absentee voting will be accomplished in the Judge of Probate’s office instead of the Circuit Clerk’s Office. Absentee Voting may begin on April 1, 2022. A voter may apply by mail or come to the Absentee Election Manager, Judge of Probate Richard Dean’s office to obtain and/or cast an absentee ballot. A current, valid, and approved photo identification must accompany the application for an Absentee ballot. For more information regarding absentee voting, please call 256-377-4919, Option 1 or 2, or go to https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/absentee-ballot-applications then select the county absentee application link.
Voter lists, voting officers, and other information will be published as required by law on specific dates in future editions of The Coosa County News.
