Attempting to serve outstanding warrants led to the arrest of a Kellyton man on multiple drug-related charges.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on July 23, Deputy Payton was attempting to serve multiple warrants at a Kellyton residence.
When he knocked on the door no one answered, but he could hear someone inside. He also smelled an odor of marijuana around the residence.
He continued to knock multiple times, but the resident never came out. The perimeter was secured and a search warrant obtained because of the smell of marijuana coming from the residence.
After obtaining the search warrant, Payton returned to the scene. He forced entry into the residence and found the suspect attempting to leave through a side door.
The individual was detained, and a search of the house was conducted.
Dalton Blake Holmes, 30, was arrested for first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and attempting to elude a police officer.
The marijuana charge was escalated to first degree because of Holmes having a prior conviction.
He was also arrested for five failure-to-appear warrants.
Holmes’ total bond was set at $22,500. He was released on July 24 to await trial.
