The Rockford Town Council recognized two groups during last Tuesday evening’s Council meeting.
During the meeting, Mayor Scott White presented a proclamation to the Rockford Public Library Board. The five-member Board consists of Dorothy Dunlap, Lena Johnston, Katherleen Larmon, Karen McEwen, and Carol Mullendore.
The proclamation reads, “Whereas, the Rockford Public Library Board members are the key to a successful community library. Whereas, the Rockford Public Library Board is committed to the ever-changing requirements for the public library. Whereas, the Rockford Public Library Board provides great suggestions for the library and the library events. Whereas, the Rockford Public Library Board members donate both monetarily and time to library activities. Whereas, the Rockford Public Library Board members are always willing to help whenever possible to promote the Rockford Public Library.”
The proclamation further reads, “Now, therefore, I, Scott White, mayor of the Town of Rockford, Ala., do hereby recognize the Rockford Public Library Board to honor their diligent work, especially during the 2026 Rockford 250 Celebration event.”
Four of the Library Board members were in attendance to be recognized and receive copies of the proclamation, with McEwen unable to attend.
Additionally, White presented a proclamation to two representatives with Accordia Health, recognizing National Health Center Week.
In part, the proclamation reads, “Whereas, community health centers have provided high-quality, affordable and accessible primary care to individuals and families for decades, regardless of their ability to pay; and whereas, these centers serve as a trusted source of care for millions of Americans, offering preventive services, chronic disease management, behavioral health support, and other essential health programs; and whereas, community health centers strengthen local economies by creating jobs, reducing health care costs through prevention and improving health outcomes…”
The proclamation further recognizes National Health Center Week as “an opportunity to celebrate the vital role” that health centers play in building healthier communities and “to honor the dedicated professionals, volunteers and advocates who make their work possible.”
The 2026 theme for National Health Center Week is “Building Innovative Care Where it Matters Most.” The proclamation notes that this theme “highlights the commitment of health centers to equity, compassion and resilience.”
The proclamation further reads, “Now, therefore, I, Scott White, mayor of Town of Rockford, Ala., do hereby proclaim the week of August 2-8, 2026, as National Health Center Week in Rockford and encourage all residents to recognize and support the important work of our local community health center.”
White stated that he wanted to present the proclamations to show appreciation to the Library Board and to Accordia Health as a local community health center.
The only action items on the agenda for last Tuesday evening’s meeting were the approval of the June minutes and the June financial statement, as standard business, and both were unanimously approved.
In informational business, White reported to the Town Council that the air unit has been installed at The Old Rockford School and is working well and that the town’s upgraded utility terrain vehicle, or a side-by-side, is now in use.
White also stated that there was an issue with the park restroom during the town’s recent event. He said the town purchased portable restrooms from Facebook Marketplace and will use those two-stall restrooms with sinks for events.
Following last week’s relatively short meeting, the next meeting of the Rockford Town Council will be held at 6 p.m. August 18.
