The fifth annual Shop for a Veteran was another success, with Kaden and Carter Tindall continuing their tradition of spreading joy to veterans at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home.
The Tindall brothers have been spearheading the veterans drive for five years now, and each year they recruit friends and classmates to help. Central Coosa was well represented once again this year as fellow students joined in to help in an act of patriotism and gratitude.
This time the Carter and Kaden were joined by Haven Williams, Justin Calhoun, Brandon Thompson, and Alanah Solis.
“They are all amazing kiddos, and we couldn’t be prouder,” said Jennifer Tindall, mother of Kaden and Carter.
Tindall and the local youth all thank Coosa County for helping make this year’s veterans drive such a success and thanks everyone for their donations, whether monetary or items from the wish list. They also thank Katurah Lewis and her staff at Dollar General in Rockford for allowing them to set up last Saturday to accept donations.
Every August Bill Nichols sends the Tindalls a wish list of items ranging from snacks to hygiene and comfort items.
As Veterans Day nears, Carter and Kaden set up at a store and approach each person walking in to ask if they would like to shop for a veteran. The shopper is given a copy of the wish list, and if they buy something on the list they bring it to the boys’ table on their way back to their car or donate money instead.
In addition to receiving numerous wish-list items, they also received $421 in monetary donations. While Tindall says that Bill Nichols Veterans Home takes great care of its veterans, these wish-list items are just extra to help “spread love” and show appreciation, and monetary donations can be used towards items or for field trips the veterans take.
The Tindalls and any friends they have volunteer to help then deliver the supplies to Bill Nichols on Veterans Day, with Mrs. Tindall saying that her sons look forward to it every year.
“The boys are very passionate about helping veterans because their daddy is an Army vet,” she said. “They love going the extra mile for them because of how much vets sacrifice and have sacrificed for our country and freedom.”
She added, “Coosa County has always stepped up to help the boys make the drive successful every year, and we can’t thank them enough.”
