Central’s Jobs for Alabama Graduates (JAG) students went to state competition this week after progressing from the district competition earlier in the year. The JAG students competed in four categories: Employability Skills, Creative Decision Making, Financial Literacy, and Prepared Speaking.
Central High School junior, Katie Meeks, won first place in the state for Prepared Speaking. Katie’s prompt was, “How has Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Supported you in Looking Towards and Preparing for the Future?” The win is even more impressive considering this was our first time competing in this category, and we took home the first place trophy.
The team of Roderick Graham, Kelsey McLaughlin, Caden Miller, and Karla Morales placed second in the state for Creative Decision Making. The teams competing were given a question they did not know ahead of time, “What ways can educators and communities come together for student success?” The teams are then given 30 minutes to brainstorm their response and create their posters, without using any technology. They then presented their ideas in front of the judges.
The students at Central are fortunate to have such a supportive community, that it is no surprise they were able to come up with a great response to the prompt, bringing home a second place trophy.
We are excited to follow our students as they move on to the National JAG Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana, in April. Stay tuned for future updates. #Indianapolisbound #JAGCA2025
Thank you to Central High School JAG director Debbie Phillips for helping our students prepare for competition and organizing the trips.
