Special to the News
This year’s theme for Black History Month is Healthcare Professionals. In history classes the first week in February, students viewed introductory videos from Gerceia and Felton Lee, who shared their career paths as engineers in the medical field.
The students had an opportunity to write down questions they had regarding the career field. Six students in each grade were chosen, based on their questions, to a special question and answer session with multiple men in the career field.
We appreciate these professionals who were willing to go above and beyond for our students to share and inspire: Gerceia Lee, CBET, who works as a biomedical engineering tech III at Children’s Hospital of Alabama; Felton Lee, BS, CBET, CRES, who works as a field service engineer III at Philips Healthcare North America; Morlon Lee, CBET, who works as a field service engineer at Alcon; Torus Lee, BS, RT, R, who works as a senior lead cardiovascular technician at Orlando Health Princeton in Birmingham; and Franklin Johnson, who works as a group manager retail technology at PNC.
Eric Carwell, MBA, was also on hand for the Q&A session to advise students interested in this career field. Carwell is the certified biomedical equipment technician (CBET) program coordinator and instructor at Jefferson State Community College.
